The Workshop on Supporting Diversity in Systems Research (Diversity 2013) is a forum to support traditionally underrepresented students in systems research. It provides minority and female students at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level with valuable opportunities for mentorship and networking.  However, the workshop is open to everyone.  We encourage all students within the systems research community to attend.

The program includes invited technical talks from diverse members of the systems research community, a student poster competition, and career-oriented panel discussions. The overall goal of the workshop is to strengthen the pipeline of systems students, providing them with advice and networking opportunities that they might not otherwise receive.  Specifically, the workshop will include:

Poster Competition

This year, we will host a poster competition in the area of systems research. All members of the systems community are invited to submit posters.

It's not too late to register a poster!  We have a few slots open.  We encourage you present, especially if you will present a poster/WIP at SOSP anyway.  The poster boards are 32x40" so the posters will have to be that size or smaller (same requirements for SOSP posters).

Contact the chairs if your are interested.

This year, we will host a poster competition in the area of systems research. All members of the systems community are invited to submit posters. The competition will proceed in 3 rounds. First, a program committee(PC) will review all submissions and select a portion for presentation at the workshop. The PC will select posters based on research merit, relevance to the systems community, and contribution to a strong technical program at Diversity.   In the second round, a committee of judges will pick the top posters based on the proposed research, poster, and presentation quality. Winning posters will get a chance  to present their research to the workshop attendees as short talks. The committee will also provide constructive feedback to students for future improvements.

Accepted posters will not be published in the SOSP proceedings. Authors may (and are encouraged to) separately submit the same poster to SOSP (http://sigops.org/sosp/sosp13/posters.html). Double submission to this forum will not constitute a violation of ACM policies.

Priority will be given to undergraduate research for a portion of the accepted posters.  Undergraduate researchers,  especially from colleges that historically serve women, Hispanic students, Native Americans, or African Americans, are encouraged to apply.

Important Dates:

August 9, 2013: Submit Posters for Round 1 (Submission Instructions Here)

August 22, 2013: Round 1 decisions
