CSE 682: Solar System Animation
Assignment: Create an animation of a simple solar system - individual project
- Minimally, it must include:
- a sun that 3 planets rotate around. The sun can stay stationary at the origin (or you can create some motion for it).
- at least three planets:
- one of the planets, call it Earth, must have at least one moon that rotates around the planet as the planet rotates around the sun. The rotational plane of the moon should not be the same as the rotational plane of the Earth.
- one of the planets must have rings and the rings have to be tilted out of the plane of the orbit
- The celestial orbs should have a variety of colors. You are encouraged to apply textures to them.
- Use keyframe animation to rotate the planets and moon at a variety of rotational speeds.
- You don't need to output frames, just make a project file and be ready to demo this in class when it's due
- Some instructions will be provided in class. Various tutorials can be found on the web, such as
this pdf from Sybex.
Also refer to Maya information that I've collected.
- You do not need to match my examples below - in fact, I encourage you to be creative and put your own spin (pun intended) on the solar system.
