Acess Switchboard
In a meeting on August 10, Allan, Christine, Sandy and Sheetal
discussed a preliminary design for the Acess switchboard, the
first menu that a user of the database sees when they open the
application. In a meeting on August 18 we made further modifications
to switchboard items. Below we document the menu hierarchy as it will
be traversed in the switchboard and the menu items at each level.

On November 15, 2000 we completed the design of the enhanced IGBP
database as it was expanded to accommodate the needs of the COMPH in
writing NIH training grants.
We now discuss changes to the IBGP switchboard that are required to
accommodate the database additions.
- Student Input
- Personal Info: just as we did for the TelephoneNos table, we'll
have to add a subscreen to allow entry for possibly multiple
DegreeGrantingUnits records; delete field Department.
- Campus Info: no change.
- General Professional Info: new tab/screen to contain the new fields in
the Students table; also a field for multiple DegreesReceived entries.
- Pre-Admission: add new field with drop down list values for
AdmissionType, add new fields for only one MCAT entry, add new field
for ExternalFellowship field in Support table.
- Candidacy/PhD: add new field for multiple StudentTG and
LaboratoryRotation entries; add new field for ResidencyMatch entries;
add field Abstract to the Publications table.
- Alum: add new field for multiple PostDocTG entries; for the
PostDoc fields, add new field for multiple PostDocAdvisor entries.
- Faculty Input
- Personal Info: add a subscreen to allow entry for possibly
multiple DegreeGrantingUnits records; add a field for DateHired and
one for RankatHire.
- Research Info: add a field for multiple DegreesReceived entries.
- Grants: add a new tab/screen for data about training and
non-training grants; add fields for multiple Grants entries, multiple
DirectorTG entries and multiple FacultyTG entries.
- Teaching: no change
- Mini Presentations: Change this to Seminar Presentations; delete
fields for MiniPresentations; add fields for SeminarPresentations.
- Committees: add a field for WeeklyPercentEffort
- Recruiting Visits: no change
- TGs/Faculty Recruits: new Switchboard entry
- Training Grants: new tab/screen with fields from TrainingGrants table.
- Faculty Recruits: new tab/screen with fields from FacultyRecruits table.
