On March 2nd, more than 35 CSE graduate students presented summaries of their research. More than 100 people from the College of Engineering wandered through the displays and reviewed the work that crossed all five of CSE's research focus areas: Artificial Intelligence, Graphics, Networking, Software Engineering and Systems. This was the first in what hopes to become an annual event thanks to the successful response of the students and attendees.

First Place Awards were given to Feng Chen (fchen@cse.ohio-state.edu) for "SmartSaver: Turning Flash Drive into a Disk Energy Saver for Mobile Computers" and Vinay Sharma (sharmav@cse.ohio-state.edu) for "Extraction of Person Silhouettes from Surveillance Imagery using MRFs."

The Graduate Studies Committee would like to thank all the participants of today's event. Our students's work is a source of great pride for the Department and this event is a very exciting opportunity to show their excellence.

We thank Prof. Jim Davis for his leadership and efforts in organizing this event and our department chair, Prof. Xiaodong Zhang for his support.

In addition, the Committee greatly appreciates the assistance of the CSE Administrative staff members, Tamera Cramer and Marty Marlatt. Also, gratitude is due the Computing Services and Help Desk staffs (particularly Kat Wenger) who put in extra effort printing the posters.

And most especially, we must ackowledge the generousity of the Knowlton School of Architecture for the use of their Gui Gallery, an exceptional space.
