CSE Professor Retires

At a lively dinner in May, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering said "farewell" to one of its finest faculty members, Dr. Sandy Mamrak. {For her farewell message to the Department and the OSU community, please follow this link.}

For the past thirty years, Dr. Mamrak has served the Department and the University in several capacities: instructor, committee leader and researcher. Dr. Stuart Zweben, current chairperson, and former chairperson, Dr. Merv Muller, concur that Sandy has long been the 'Go-To' person when an important committee spot needed to be filled. Most recently she has chaired the Computer and Graduate Admissions committees, two key positions that will leave her influence on the Department for years. Her recent research interests have included Web-based Information Systems Architecture and Object-Oriented Frameworks Architecture. She has been very active with The Ohio State University Medical Center thanks to her ACUITY project, which is devoted to innovative information-system technology to support cancer research.

Dr. Mamrak joined CSE in 1975 after obtaining her doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she had also received her Masters, both in computer science. Prior to those achievements, she attended Notre Dame College of Ohio where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

Sandy is not just leaving CSE and OSU, but also the Central Ohio area. She is emigrating to New York City and plans to become complete Manhattanite, not a difficult task for someone with her dynamic sense of style. She has long set the bar for elegance and flair here at CSE and her savoir faire will be missed. Her husband, B. Chandrasekaran (CSE Senior Researcher and Emeritus Professor), will join her in New York, as, eventually, will their daughter, Malika, once she completes her degree here at OSU.

We wish Sandy all the best in life as she deserves nothing less.
