Advisor wins National Post

The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) has elected Margaret (Peg) Steele to the position of Chair of the Engineering and Science Advising Commission. Peg assumes this post in October 2006 at the national conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.

NACADA, with a membership of 9100+ higher education representatives who are professional advisors/counselors, faculty, administrators and students whose responsibilities include academic advising. They strive to promote and support “quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students. The focus of the Engineering and Science Advising Commission is “improving advising for these students by finding answers to these challenges: highly structured curricula, importance of accreditation issues, student attitudes toward college, poorly defined learning objectives, high level of stress among students, critical diversity and equity issues, academic support problems, competitive nature of admissions, and the high percentage of international and ESL students.”

Ms. Steele joined the department during winter quarter, 1998. She holds a BA in French from Westminster College in Pennsylvania and an MA in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. In 2004, Ms. Steele received the an Outstanding Advising Award from the Nation Academic Advising Association.

It is with pride that CSE has long retained the reputation for having one of the best Undergraduate Advising offices within the whole University. We thank Peg Steele for attaining that for us and hope we will enjoy her service for many years to come.
