Annual Awards Banquet

Spring is here! And that means flowers, showers, and - most important of all for CSE - the Annual Awards Banquet! On May 10th, 2012, the sixteenth (16th) dinner will take place at the Ohio State Faculty Club. We'll be handing out scholarships and the annual awards for Outstanding Research, Service and Teaching. These include our named and funded scholarships shown below. Congratulations to this year's award recipients, some of whom are named below. Scholarship awards will announced at the event.

Won't you join us for this evening? All CSE Department students, faculty, staff and CSE Friends are invited. The dinner is free for faculty, staff and students. Award recipients may bring 2 non-CSE guests at no cost and may also receive a parking pass should one be needed. For guests who are not current members of the CSE Department, there is a charge of $25 charge for non-OSU attendees; $15 charge for OSU students; $10 for children under 12. The dinner is buffet and will include vegetarian and vegan options.

Check-in the evening of the event will open at 5:15 with seating beginning at 5:30pm. Chairperson Xiaodong Zhang will make a few welcoming remark and dinner will begin PROMPTLY at 6:00. The award presentations will follow dinner. Typically the event is finished before 8:00pm.

• B. Chandrasekaran & Sandra Mamrak Fellowship (#481896)
  As a parting gift to CSE as they retired and left the University, Professors B. Chandrasekaran & Sandra Mamrak established this fund to bestow one or more partial and/or full fellowships for full-time graduate students.
• Ernest William Leggett, Jr. Scholarship // The Leggett Family Award (# 644119)
  The Leggett Family established this endowment in memory of Ernest William Leggett, Jr., who received his Ph.D. from the Department in 1977. Dr. Leggett passed away in 1994.
• Eleanor Quinlan Memorial Award (#645935)
  This fund is an endowment established to honor the memory of Eleanor "Elley" Quinlan, who was both a staff member and graduate of the Department. From 1990 until her passing in January 2001, she was the Academic Program Assistant. The proceeds from this fund are used for the development and recognition of graduate teaching associates in the CSE Department.
• Mike Liu Graduate Scholarship Fund (#481002)
  Established November 1, 2008, by the department, former Ph.D. graduates, friends, colleagues through The Foundation to celebrate Professor Mike Liu's 40 year service to CSE, and his contributions to Ohio State and to the fields of distributed and networking. Income is used to annually award one or more Ph.D. students for the excellence of academic and research activities.
• The O'Connell Family Award (#645300)
  Alumni Conleth O'Connell (Ph.D. 1990) and Christina (Morgan) O'Connell, his wife and former Department staffer, have created this endowment for undergraduate students. The fund subsidizes one or more undergraduate scholarships for academically and/or financially deserving undergraduate computer science and engineering majors; particular efforts are often made to find a deserving female student.
