Hi folks, I am Xinliang (Frederick) Zhang. I am from China. My official Chinese name is 张心亮 or Xinliang Zhang in Pinyin (pronounced as Shin-LeeAun Zhang). Usually, I go by Frederick.
I am an incoming Ph.D. student in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) at University of Michigan (UM), advised by Dr. Lu Wang. I am also affiliated with Michigan AI Lab.
Previously, I obtianed my dual Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees from The Ohio State University (OSU) in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) and Math (Minor). I also obtianed my Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree from Sichuan University (SCU) in Industrial Engineering (IE). During my stay at OSU, I was fortunate to have Dr. Huan Sun as my advisor and proud of being part of SunLab. I also worked closely with Dr. Marie-Catherine de Marneffe
My reserch interests lie in the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML) and Computational Social Science (CSS). Particularly, I have been recently working on Question Answering & Generation, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Inference, NLP in Healthcare (Clinical NLP) and NLP for Social Media.
I am also broadly interested in Optimization, Applied Mathematics, Statistics and (Statistical) Linguistics. Explore more interests now!

Here is my Calendar. I am almost always available on campus from 9am to 7pm, Mon. through Fri. except for time slots that have been already scheduled. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, I am not available for in-person meetings for safety considerations but still welcome to virtual meetings.
