|

|
Why?
|
This is part of the "accreditation evaluation" of the BS-CSE
program. Full details are at:
http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~neelam/abet/
Short version: The BS-CSE program is accredited by the
Eng. Accr. Commission and the Computing Accr. Comm., both of
the Accr. Board of Eng. & Tech (ABET; www.abet.org).
Accreditation is important since some organizations require
their employees to be graduates of accredited programs. To
remain accredited, we have to be reevaluated every six
years. We were last evaluated in Au '99; so now we have to
be reevaluated.
|
Why *this meeting*? |
|
The accr. team wants to get students' views on
strengths and weaknesses of the program on such topics as:
computing facilities; advising; curriculum; quality of
faculty; services provided by the Engineering Career
Services; etc.
Reasonable and justified negative comments are appropriate,
but this is not a gripe session. Students should talk about
the positive aspects of the program while not ignoring any
negative aspects. The accreditation team will moderate the
meeting. Again, it is not that negative comments should not
be made, just what sorts of negative comments, and how you
express them. For example, a comment such as "I hate
RESOLVE/C++!" is inappropriate; whereas something like, "I
realize we have to learn good software principles but why
not in a practical language such as C++ or Java or C#?",
would probably get an interesting discussion going. Comments
such as "Prof. XYZ really sucks!" should not be made.
|
Why should *I* go? |
|
Because you are a BS-CSE major. And this is a chance to
express your opinions on the program and how it should
evolve. It also gives you a chance to see what your
fellow-students think.
|
Will there be pizza?:-) |
|
No, unfortunately, we are not allowed to provide refreshments.
Sorry! |
