ANNOUNCEMENTS

11/20 - The 5 pts on the lab4 exam about the debugger will be repeated with an additional 5 T/F set of questions on lab5 exam.  These 5 points will still be counted toward the Lab4 exam and the Lab5 exam will have the full 15 points (i.e. these T/F will be in addition to the Lab5 exam questions).  The highest grade out of 5 points from either the lab4  exam (with the 5 original T/F questions) or the lab5 exam debugger section (10 T/F questions) will count toward the lab4 exam grade.
11/5 - Lab 3 can be one day late without penalty (i.e. can turn in 11/6 midnight), however, the lab3 quiz is still Friday, and if you turn in the lab 2 days late (i.e. after R 11/6 midnight), then the lab is still considered 2 days late with a 50% penalty.

11/5 - For lab3, the "RESTAURANT TOTALS" list the employee of the month and the RESTAURANT totals, not the totals for the employee of the month!
11/4 - On Monday, 11/3, we went over the string and unstring statements.  The sample programs are in /usr/class/cse314/exstring.cob and /usr/class/cse314/exunstring.cob for your benefit.
11/4 - Lab#3 quiz Friday 11/7.
10/28 - The midterm information includes all the information covered the first 4 weeks of class as specified on the syllabus EXCEPT unix, scope and accept information i.e. there will be no questions on the midterm about scope, unix or the accept statement.
10/20 - Midterm exam was set for Wed 10/29.  However, a few students have a midterm directly following also in a programming language course (VB).  Because of this, I am asking all students to let me know if you have any problems if the midterm exam is moved to Friday 10/31.  The midterm is NOT moved at this point.  I am trying to determine if this is an okay move... please let me know if you would rather not have the midterm moved to Fri 10/31.
10/20 - Lab#2 quiz is schedule for Fri 10/24
10/13 - I forgot to let you know what the Lab#1 Quiz would be like i.e. what types of questions and what material.  ALL lab quizzes will test the information in the GOAL section of the lab handout. It may have true/false questions, code evaluation, code fill in the blank, multiple choice and/or sometimes matching. For example, I could give you an output report and the code that creates the output with blanks in the code for you to fill in.  Also, I could give you a loop, and ask you to show me the output of the code.
Lab#1 Quiz will NOT have any Unix related problems.  Also, none of the vocab will appear on this quiz either... I'm saving these for the midterm :o)
10/13 - LAB#1 QUIZ is scheduled for Wed 10/15 during the middle of class!
10/2 - Liz Hays (the grader) has a conflict on Tuesday 10/7 with her office hours times.  She will be in at 1:45pm instead of 1pm for this day only.
09/24
– REQUIRED BOOK:  COBOL for the 21st Century, 10th ed. by Stern, Stern & Ley

09/24 - If you are on the waitlist, you must attend at least one of the first two days of class to be considered to fill any possible open positions due to drops.

09/24 - You must attend at least one of the first two days of class.  If you are absent, and have not contacted me prior to the start of the quarter, you will be automatically dropped from the class per university policy.

09/24 - This class will take a significant amount of your time.  Please be aware that spending an average of 9 hours a week outside of class on your labs and exams is normal for this course (and that's just the average!).
