PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Because I made lab 0 ungraded, the point count for labs 1, 2, and 3 will be: 10, 10, and 20.
- Read Chapter 8 on the Imaging Pipeline. We will be covering Tone Mapping in class and will be the topic of lab 2.
- You should be reading Chapter 7.
- Read Chapter 5 on Radiometry
- Read Chapter 6 on Camera Models - we won't be covering this in class but it will help you in rendering scenes in PBRT.
- Read Chapter 8 on the Imaging Pipeline. We will be covering Tone Mapping in class and will be the topic of lab 2.
- Check out the new notes for lab1 - including a skeleton program.
- Remember: the newsgroup is a good place to ask questions whose answers might be of interest to others in the class.
For example, clarifications of the lab assigment and questions about PBRT architecture. By posting on the newsgroup, you get the attention of me and the grader as well as others in the class who might be able to help with the answer.
- Tentative office hours are M,W,F at 2:30-3:18.
- Read Chapters 2 and 3 on your own. We will not discuss these in class. These mainly cover basic geometry, transformations, and shapes as well as the classes and interfaces used by PBRT.
- Read Chapter 4 on acceleration techniques- we will be covering this in class. Most of this you should have seen already to some degree in CSE681.
- Important things to do:
- get PBRT up and running
The first thing you have to do is get access to PBRT. You can do that right away. Most people in class install this on their home computer or laptop. We can make if available on the Departmental machines if necessary. Let me know asap if you'd like it on some of the Departmental lab machines.
- read about literate programming in the text
- read about the structure of PBRT in the text
- Check back here periodically - the lab assignments, list of topics (speciailly the topics in the second half of the quarter), and grade allocation are not finalized yet.
