II. Accreditation Summary A. Students ABET Criterion 1: The quality and performance of the students and graduates is an important consideration in the evaluation of an engineering program. The institution must evaluate, advise, and monitor students to determine its success in meeting program objectives. Our students are of high quality and perform well in a demanding curriculum. The average SAT/ACT scores for students admitted into our program last year was ??? The average gpa of our students is ??? The student population is also fairly diverse, with about ??? percentage being women and minorities; talk a bit about the faculty advisor for women and minorities, our acquiring industrial support in the form of scholarships for qualified women and minority students. Average time to complete the degree is ?? years. (Maybe 50 percent graduate in 4 years or some- thing like that?) A fair percentage of our students gain work experience and support their education through participation in co-op programs and summer internships. (Any numbers available to support these claims?) Our graduates are highly sought after by major companies (talk a bit about average number of job offers/graduate and maybe salaries offered?) At commencement, about ?? percent of those receiving the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Engineering had ac- cepted employment and ?? percent committed to attend graduate school. We should note that an important reason why relatively few of our graduates go on to graduate school is the very strong demand for them from industry. Evaluation of student performance is directly linked to our Program Educational Objectives and Program Outcomes through the course syllabi (APPENDIX ??: this is a reference to the course descriptions that we are putting together for our courses). Students are advised and their progress monitored by a professional full-time Academic Advisor (Ms. Peg Steele) assisted by a Graduate Administrative Associate, and by the faculty as described below: Summarize (the order of these items needs to be rethought): o The process of initial admission to the major; o Assignment of faculty advisor; o Availability of advising office and faculty advisor as needed by student; o Do students have access to any one in the college? If so, describe that here. o Annual audits (or whatever they are called). o Information about the program is available to the students in hardcopy from the advising office, and also on the Department's web page (provide address). Students can also have on-line access to information about what requirements they still have to meet in order to complete their programs. o Copies of transcripts being available to the faculty advisors (and anything else we set up); o Quarterly evaluation of students who are not making satisfactory progress, putting them on probation and advising them of what they need to do to get back in good standing, dismissing from the program those who do poorly on a continuing basis; involved procedure for such students to get back into the program. o Final degree audits. o Any others?
