Feedback on preparation for graduate school

Perhaps partly in response to the changes in the marketplace, more students seem interested in going to graduate school after finishing their undergraduate degree. However, they also seem to feel, as seen in the survey results of this year (2002-'03), that they are not sufficiently well prepared to enter graduate programs. This is also consistent with the experience of faculty on our graduate admissions committee that domestic students, in their application to the graduate program, often don't present their case in the best possible manner.

Currently, we do have a UPE forum, usually held in the Spring quarter, in which faculty most involved with graduate admissions offer details on how the process works and tips on how to maximize chances of admission (as well as support). Perhaps Fall would be a better time for that forum, since that is when students have to apply to graduate programs, especially if they are looking for support. Perhaps it would also be useful to distill the essential information in a web page to which there are prominent links from the undergrad pages.
