Course Groups

Background
Faculty has approved (at its meeting on Nov. 30, '98) the proposal
to organize courses into groups with the course coordinators of the
courses in a given group being responsible for consulting with the
various course instructors, for interacting with each other, for
interacting with coordinators of other relevant courses (such as those
that have the course in question as a pre-req), and for presenting a
status report dealing with the various issues identified in
the original proposal. The actual grouping
of courses into specific groups is not yet complete.
Proposal
The following groups are proposed. Many grad courses inevitably
appear in these groups since these courses are taken also by many
undergrads. Further, some EE courses, Math 366, and Stat 427, 428,
appear in the groups since they are important pre-req courses for some
of the CIS courses. Coordinators of appropriate CIS courses should
interact with the appropriate people in EE and Math to keep track of
these courses.

EE 261, 206, 567.
- Theory: Math 366; CIS 541, 625, 640, 642, 680, 725, 727, 780;
Stat 427, 428.

- Programming Languages: CIS 459, 655, 755, 756.
- Operating Systems: CIS 660, 662, 741, 760, 762, 763(?).
- Computer Networks: CIS 677, 678, 777.

- Artificial Intelligence: CIS 612, 630, 730, 731, 732,
739, 776, 779.
Assuming that these groupings are acceptable, the next step is to
identify which groups will present their status reports during Winter
and Spring '99. It may also be a good idea to identify one specific
individual for each group who is responsible for making sure that the
appropriate activities (described in the
the original proposal) take place in a
timely manner so that status reports are ready for presentation to the
Curriculum Committee. This person may also be the right person
to collect the required course materials when preparing for the
accreditation visit.
Here is a list of possible names (in the order of
the groups):
