Changes in Capstone Course Criteria

During the Winter and Spring '04 quarters, the Undergraduate Studies Committee discussed the criteria that our capstone design courses should satisfy. The original set of criteria had been approved several years ago. While those criteria included many important and useful requirements, they were also lacking in some respects such as requiring oral presentations.

Following these discussions, the committee proposed a revised set of criteria. These were presented to the CSE faculty at its meeting of April 26, '04; after a brief discussion, the proposed criteria were approved by the faculty.

The committee is currently looking at each of our capstone courses to ensure that it meets the revised criteria. Faculty coordinators of the respective capstone courses will make presentations to the committee on how well the particular course meets the revised criteria and plans for any needed changes to the course. The details of these discussions are available.

Two courses that are expected to make some important changes following these discussions are CSE 762 and 778.
