- Deanna Zandt has created a deeply insightful sequence of
drawings (in other words, yes, a cartoon) illustrating and explaining “The Unspoken Complexity of ‘Self-Care’”.
- The Luddite notion that more and more people will lose
work to machines is no longer a fallacy, Martin Ford argues in his books, Rise
of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future and The Lights in the Tunnel:
Automation, Accelerating Technology and the Economy of the Future.
A consequence is that fewer people will be able to be consumers. However,
the economy depends upon consumers. The solution? Only governments can
solve this problem by taxing companies appropriately and distributing
living incomes to everyone so that everyone can be a consumer. This plan
does not prevent people from also working jobs for additional income if
they can, and provides for additional incentive payments available to
everyone. It looks to me as though the oligarchs and the plutocrats will grudgingly
choose this plan, unless, of course, they are comfortable with economic
collapse.
